Here is another set of pictures from Albania, this time Berat in the south of the country. Berat is on UNESCO’s World Heritage List for its architectural heritage. The old town preserves many Ottoman style properties from the 18th and 19th centuries that are built in tiers on the slopes that lead up to the fortress, known as the Kala. The fortress itself dates back to the 13th century and in and around it are many old Byzantine churches from the 13th century and a number of Ottoman era mosques. These pictures were taken in December 2005.
